Coconut milk and aloe vera shampoo

So today I decided to have a go at making some shampoo. There was only one “recipe” that I had all the ingredients for in the house, so that was the one I tried.

Very simply;
– coconut milk
– aloe vera gel

I only had half a cup of aloe vera gel left, so I used that with half a cup of coconut milk. I used the thicker cream from the tin of coconut milk.

My hair is long, fine and gets greasy very quickly, so I wasn’t too confident that this would clean my hair well enough. I know that it can take a while for your scalp to adjust to natural shampoo, so I will give it a few goes.

The “shampoo” felt amazing on my hair while using it, but I could tell it wasn’t removing any grease. I think I might have used too much of it in one go. It made my hair really soft, and I had no tangles, but my hair didn’t dry properly, and was quite sticky still. I washed it again and rinsed it with apple cider vinegar and water. This removed a lot of residue, but I gave in and also used (a very small amount) of regular shampoo. I really didn’t want to wash my hair a third time!

I think this would be better used as a conditioner or detangling cream, or it would possibly be good if you have very dry hair. I still have lots left in the fridge so I will use it again and maybe freeze the rest.
